International Scientific Contacts of Soviet Geneticists from the Second Half of the 1960s through the Middle of 1980s (Materials from the Institute of General Genetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences).

The paper analyzes the integration of Soviet geneticists in the International research community in the “post-Lysenko” epoch (from the second half of the 1960s through the middle of 1980s). By focusing on the archival documents and materials from the Institute of General Genetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the article discusses the business trips of Soviet geneticists abroad, the interest of foreign scientists to the research in the Soviet Union and big genetic conferences and congresses with the participation of Soviet biologists. The author uses a wide range of new archival materials from several archives, the sources of oral history and the memories of geneticists. The paper gives a conclusion about some progress in the development of International relationship. The Soviet geneticists had foreign trips, participated in the conferences, specifically, in the International genetic congresses. Well-known foreign scientists regularly visited the Institute of General Genetics. At the same time, the development of foreign contacts was hindered by a number of negative factors. International exchanges in science were complicated by bureaucratic barriers. Due to the Soviet party system, Soviet geneticists had a lot of restrictions for their travelling abroad. It was very difficult to get longterm foreign trainings, which were so necessary for the young researchers. There were problems with invitations of foreign researchers. As a result, the interest of the International research community to the research work in the USSR waned. Foreign scientists were not fully informed about the level of science in the Soviet Union.
